The root elevator has a working part of 3.5 mm and is used for tooth extraction. Before extracting the tooth, the root elevator should loosen the ligaments and periosteum around the tooth. Once the tooth is loosened, it can be extracted either with the root elevator or forceps. This prior separation allows for a minimally invasive extraction.
